Obituary of Phil Louis Chavez

Just before midnight on Tuesday, May 18th, 2021 Phil Louis Chavez, loving son, brother, uncle, and dedicated friend passed away at age 53.

Phil is preceded in death by his father Louis Chavez; maternal grandparents, Manuel and Clara Mendiola; and paternal grandparents, Benjamin Chavez and Marie Sena.

From an early age, Phil was dedicated to outdoor life. He was an avid fisherman, gardener, and loved to spend time camping. He delighted in cooking for friends and family and was often first to volunteer to help others with home improvements and cooking for large gatherings. He was a wealth of knowledge when it came to planting of any kind. Phil was a natural born teacher as he enjoyed passing along recipes and any expertise he had to others. He always offered free fishing lessons, and painting lessons, and planting lessons and lessons in just about any other area of self-proclaimed expertise.

He loved his friends and family and in his last days while at the hospital he asked that we tell people that he said “Tell everyone that I’m sorry that I had to leave so soon”.

Phil Louis was the eldest child of Louis and Virginia Chavez. He is survived by his mother and siblings, Steven and Dana Chavez, parents of Juliana, Jayden and Jamie Chavez; Tamara and Matt Smith, parents of Amaya Smith; Cedric and Amanda Chavez, parents of Elena and Benjamin Chavez; and Sandra and Nathan Hjelm, parents of Manny and Elliott Hjelm.

The family wishes to thank everyone for the tremendous out pouring of love and support. Very special thank you to Linda and Santiago Martinez whose care and kindness will never be forgotten.
