Los Alamos National Laboratory announces installation of newest supercomputer

Los Alamos National Laboratory gathered components, during the summer months, for the installation of Crossroads, the laboratory's newest supercomputer, teaming with Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE), an on-site team and system provider, to finalize its connection to the lab's power and cooling distribution systems. Once the new system was operating, Los Alamos National Laboratory also announced the integration of fiber optical cables into the high-performance computing (HPC) network at the laboratory.


City of Albuquerque releases schedule for Advanced Clean Cars and Advanced Clean Trucks public meeting

The New Mexico Environment Department (NMED) and the City of Albuquerque disclosed the schedule for public meetings regarding the proposed Advanced Clean Cars and Advanced Clean Trucks rules on Sept. 5, according to a press release. These meetings will be conducted by NMED staff, who will also be available to address inquiries from participants.


NMSU recognizes alumni with Distinguished Alumni Awards

New Mexico State University (NMSU) revealed six new recipients of the Distinguished Alumni Awards on Sept. 6, recognizing the most accomplished alumni across various fields, according to a press release. Furthermore, NMSU's Alumni Association announced the awardees of the James F. Cole Memorial Award for Service and the Young Alumni Service Award during this recognition event.


NMSU: Enrollment has increased across all campuses and has returned to pre-pandemic levels in Las Cruces

New Mexico State University (NMSU) revealed on Sept. 6 that enrollment figures for the NMSU system indicate a nearly 3% increase compared to the previous fall, with the Las Cruces campus surpassing pre-pandemic enrollment levels, according to a press release. The preliminary data from the university's fall census date of Sept. 1 reports a systemwide enrollment count of 21,829 for fall 2023, marking a 2.9% rise from fall 2022.


Santa Fe Public Schools: Sprouts reveals 24 school garden builds in 24 hours across 24 communities, with Kearny Elementary selected as one

Santa Fe Public Schools shared on Aug. 30 that The Sprouts Healthy Communities Foundation has declared its plan to grant 24 schools nationwide with a new or rejuvenated learning garden through the "24 Gardens in 24 Hours in 24 Communities" competition, according to a press release. Within Santa Fe, Kearny Elementary is set to receive a garden, and the initiative will be facilitated by Cooking with Kids.


Albuquerque Public Schools commemorates the launch of new strategic plan

Albuquerque Public Schools officials announced on Sept. 1 that their five-year Emerging Stronger strategic plan was introduced to students, families, educators and community leaders, according to a press release. The plan's formal launch took place during a community celebration dinner at Albuquerque High, attended by approximately 200 individuals, followed by a summit at the Berna Facio Professional Development Center which drew around 160 participants.


Bernalillo County marks groundbreaking of Fire Station No. 66

Bernalillo County marked the commencement of construction for Bernalillo County Fire Station No. 66 on Sept. 6, the first to be built in over 25 years. This fire station is located at the southwest corner of Atrisco Vista Boulevard and Central Avenue SW and will cater to the expanding West Side area, including the vicinity of the Metropolitan Detention Center, according to a press release.


UNM: The El Puente Fellowship shares its achievements in a peer-reviewed journal by the American Sociological Association

The University of New Mexico revealed on Sept. 3, that Alejandro Mendiaz-Rivera, the program director of El Puente Research Fellowship, along with four graduate fellows, have recently showcased the program's achievements in a peer-reviewed journal by the American Sociological Association. El Puente has been instrumental in assisting 170 primarily first-generation, low-income students of color in exploring research opportunities that might otherwise be inaccessible to them, according to a press release.


NMSU: VentureFunding accelerator is open to applications from technology startups based in New Mexico

UNM: Second consecutive rise in fall enrollment, with the largest first-year class on record

The University of New Mexico in Albuquerque reported a surge in enrollment on Sept. 5, including its largest-ever first-year class. In fall 2023, the number of new first-year student registrations at the Albuquerque campus increased by 3.1 percent, UNM said in a press release.
