Representative Teresa Leger Fernández has taken to social media to criticize former President Donald Trump’s policies, particularly those affecting farmers, New Mexico’s revenue, and the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) process.
On December 9, 2025, Leger Fernández posted about the impact of trade policies on American farmers: "Of course it’s not enough. Farmers want to farm, not get handouts after Trump wrecks their living. This is a bad trade, not aid. And remember, Trump gave Argentina $40 billion and their farmers are selling the soybeans American farmers can’t sell."
Later that day, she commented on the effects of federal legislation on state finances: "Trump’s Big 'Beautiful' Bill is hurting New Mexico’s revenue, just as we predicted. Republicans prioritizing the biggest corporations over regular New Mexicans once again."
In a subsequent post on December 9, Leger Fernández addressed this year’s NDAA negotiations: "This year, the NDAA process was bipartisan—as it should be. We agreed our service members deserve higher pay and better rural healthcare access. The one thing we didn’t agree with was Speaker Johnson’s last-minute decision to rip IVF out of the bill. Service members sacrifice"
Leger Fernández represents New Mexico in Congress and has secured her seat in multiple recent elections—defeating Sharon Clahchischilliage in 2024 with 41.8% of the vote compared to her opponent's 43.7%, Alexis Martinez Johnson in both 2022 (58.2% vs. 41.8%) and 2020 (58.7% vs. 41.3%).
