The Albuquerque International Sunport has reported that its new ABQ FlySide Pass program has attracted more than 500 visitors in less than two weeks since its launch on November 25. The initiative allows nontravelers, those without an airline ticket, to access the airside of the terminal after passing through TSA security.
On average, about 50 passes are approved each day, making Albuquerque one of the fastest-growing airports to offer this type of program. With the FlySide Pass, individuals aged 18 and older can accompany or meet travelers at their gates, dine and shop at local and national concessions, and explore art collections and cultural exhibits within the terminal.
In addition to launching the pass, the Sunport is introducing Support Local Sunport Business Saturdays throughout December. Every Saturday this month, all concession merchants will provide a 10% discount for both travelers and FlySide Pass holders as part of a holiday promotion aimed at highlighting local businesses.
Mayor Keller commented on the new offerings: “The FlySide Pass is opening our airport in a whole new way. It gives families, friends, and visitors the chance to explore the Sunport’s local flavors, art, and experiences. And with Support Local Sunport Business Saturdays, the community can enjoy savings while discovering all that makes our Sunport so special.”
FlySide Passes can be requested up to seven days ahead of time online; same-day approvals are often processed within minutes. Approved visitors must go through TSA screening like regular passengers before entering secure areas.
Aviation Acting Director Manny Manriquez noted: “The FlySide Pass is bringing the community into the heart of the Sunport. The response has exceeded our expectations, and we look forward to welcoming even more community members to explore our concessions, art, and reimagined spaces.”
Currently only adults may apply for a pass due to TSA requirements; however, officials say an upcoming federal system update will allow minors to participate in future expansions.
