Jay Block, a state senator for New Mexico, said that his veterans fair attracted strong participation and connected service members with essential resources and legislative discussions. The statement was made on the social media platform X.
"We had so many veterans needing help and we got them started," said Jay C Block, New Mexico State Senator from 12th District (R). "Earlier in the day I had a veterans committee discussing many issues and potential legislation. Thank you to Sandoval County for opening up their beautiful facility. A huge thank you to the Department of Veterans Services for during VSOs to help our vets."
According to the event organizers, the Sandoval County veterans fair brought together state and local leaders to assist veterans with health, housing, and benefit programs. The event also featured discussions on upcoming legislation designed to strengthen state-level support for New Mexico veterans.
The Department of Veterans Services reports that New Mexico has more than 140,000 veterans. Many of these individuals reside in rural communities where outreach events like this fair are critical for accessing state and federal support programs and veteran service officers (VSOs).
The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs indicates that 27% of New Mexico veterans are aged 65 or older, highlighting the importance of accessible local healthcare and benefit navigation services. State partnerships aim to address these growing needs through targeted outreach.
Block represents Sandoval County in the New Mexico Senate and is a retired U.S. Air Force officer. Known for his focus on veterans affairs, public safety, and government accountability, he has been an advocate for expanding veterans’ access to state resources.
