Farmington man receives 15-year sentence for sexual abuse of minor

A Farmington man has been sentenced to 15 years in federal prison for engaging in sexual acts with a minor. Daniel Washburn, 31, an enrolled member of the Navajo Nation, admitted to having sexual contact with a 14-year-old child in February 2019 when he was 24 years old.

Washburn pleaded guilty to sexual abuse of a minor. After serving his prison sentence, he will be subject to ten years of supervised release and will be required to register as a sex offender. There is no parole in the federal system.

The announcement was made by Acting U.S. Attorney Ryan Ellison and Justin A. Garris, Special Agent in Charge of the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Albuquerque Field Office.

The case was investigated by the Farmington Resident Agency of the FBI’s Albuquerque Field Office, with assistance from the Navajo Police Department and Navajo Department of Criminal Investigations. Assistant United States Attorneys Jesse Pecoraro and Mia Ulibarri-Rubin are prosecuting the case.
