Albuquerque Reads, a tutoring program focused on improving literacy for kindergarten and first-grade students, is continuing its efforts to support young readers in the community. The initiative, which operates within classrooms, aims to help struggling students develop the skills necessary for lifelong learning.
The Greater Albuquerque Chamber of Commerce is calling for volunteers to participate in the program for the current school year. Tutoring sessions are scheduled from mid-September through May and require a commitment of 90 minutes per week. There is also an option for volunteers to join a team and tutor once a month.
"Join Albuquerque Public Schools, the Greater Albuquerque Chamber of Commerce and volunteers like you to make a lasting difference in a child’s life!" the Chamber stated.
Currently, Albuquerque Reads is seeking tutors for both Atrisco and Whittier elementary schools. Those interested in volunteering or sponsoring the program can find more information at abqreads.com or by contacting Kayla Nelson.
The Chamber expressed appreciation to the sponsors who have contributed to the acquisition of books for monthly distributions to participating students.
