Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham has released a statement on the death of former State Senator Clint Harden. Harden, a Republican, represented Eastern New Mexico in the legislature for over ten years.
In her statement, Governor Lujan Grisham said, "New Mexico has lost a dedicated public servant, and I’ve lost a good friend." She noted that although Senator Harden represented Eastern New Mexico, his work had an impact across the state. The governor highlighted his efforts to support children with autism and their families, help those reentering the workforce after incarceration, and promote early childhood education.
Lujan Grisham also remarked on Harden's approach to politics: "He also served as a shining example of civility, recognizing the importance of being able to disagree without being disagreeable. Clint and I didn’t agree on every issue—we came from different parties and different parts of the state—but we always treated each other with respect."
She concluded by expressing her condolences: "I will miss his friendship, his counsel, and his example. Manny and I extend our condolences to family, friends, and the communities of Eastern New Mexico he served so well. May his memory be a blessing."
