Gabe Vasquez, U.S. Congressman representing New Mexico’s 2nd district, has recently used his social media platform to address a range of issues including Indigenous heritage, public lands, and ongoing government negotiations.

On October 13, 2025, Vasquez acknowledged the Indigenous communities in his district, stating, "NM02 is home to 7 indigenous communities with rich histories that span back long before our state and country were ever formed. Today and every day, I work to honor this history. Happy Indigenous People’s Day."

Two days later, on October 15, 2025, Vasquez commented on the importance of public lands and criticized actions by the previous administration: "Jonathan is right, public lands define who we are. The Trump Administration’s attacks on public lands threaten New Mexico and our traditions. Stories like this are what keeps me fighting to keep public lands in public hands."

On October 16, 2025, Vasquez addressed ongoing partisan disagreements regarding healthcare costs and government operations, stating, "It's been over two weeks and Republicans still haven’t shown up to negotiate. We should agree, on a bipartisan basis, how to keep healthcare costs down and reopen the government. It’s not that hard."

Vasquez began serving in Congress in 2023 after defeating Yvette Herrell in the 2024 general election with 52.1% of the vote. He succeeded Herrell as the representative for New Mexico’s 2nd district.
