Rob Black, Cabinet Secretary-Designate | New Mexico Economic Development Department
After completing the New Mexico MainStreet (NMMS) Accelerator Program, the Revitalize San Pedro Partnership and the Lordsburg Economic Advancement Project (LEAP) have been officially designated as New Mexico MainStreet programs. The announcement was made by the New Mexico Economic Development Department.
Both organizations met the requirements of the NMMS Accelerator, which include organizational development, building partnerships, improving communication and outreach, promoting their districts, supporting business development, and making physical improvements.
The Revitalize San Pedro Partnership and LEAP began the NMMS Accelerator Program in January 2024 after participating in NMMS’s Project-Based Initiatives. Throughout the process, NMMS provided professional guidance and technical assistance at no cost.
For more than ten years, both communities have worked with local governments on revitalization projects and have expanded their organizational capacities.
“These designations speak volumes about the commitment and tenacity of both the San Pedro and Lordsburg communities,” said Economic Development Department Secretary Rob Black. “With vision and persistence, New Mexico’s rural and urban areas continue to demonstrate that they are creating real opportunities for growth and prosperity.”
“San Pedro and Lordsburg’s dedication to community revitalization, economic vitality and historic preservation reflects the highest ideals of the Main Street movement and marks an important milestone in advancing the future visions for these communities,” said Daniel J. Gutierrez, New Mexico MainStreet director.
Taos and Santa Rosa were the most recent communities to receive NMMS designation prior to this announcement, having earned the status in 2019.
NMMS is part of the New Mexico Economic Development Department and is affiliated with Main Street America. The program focuses on revitalizing older downtowns and neighborhood commercial districts across the country. The New Mexico MainStreet program was established in 1984. It currently supports 32 MainStreet districts and 13 Arts & Cultural Districts throughout the state.
