During a recent special session of the New Mexico Legislature, lawmakers convened at the request of the Governor. The session was called to address issues related to subsidies for certain groups. According to the Rio Grande Foundation, the Governor and a Legislature with a Democratic majority have had several opportunities to enact reforms in the state's health care system and to work on economic improvement and diversification. However, the Foundation notes that both the Governor and many legislators in her party have consistently opposed such changes.
The Rio Grande Foundation was active during this special session, not only by participating at the state capitol but also by tracking legislative votes through its Freedom Index. The Foundation has made available information on how individual legislators voted during the session.
"She and the Legislature dominated by her fellow Democrats have had ample opportunities (including the special) to reform the State’s failing health care system and improve/diversify our economy, but she and many legislators in her party remain steadfastly opposed."
"The Rio Grande Foundation didn’t just work at the Roundhouse this session, we also tracked the votes in our Freedom Index. You can find the votes for YOUR legislators and those of the rest of the Legislature here."
