A restored 1929 Cadillac 341-B, originally part of the Harvey Company's fleet, is now on display at the New Mexico History Museum. This pop-up exhibit will run from October 25 to November 9, 2025, in conjunction with the Fred Harvey History Weekend. The car, loaned by Xanterra Travel, was used in the "Indian Detours" tours organized by Major Hunter Clarkson and Fred Harvey. These tours introduced travelers to Native American arts and crafts and promoted the Southwest as a tourist destination.
Billy G. Garrett, Executive Director at New Mexico History Museum, expressed gratitude to Allan Affeldt for suggesting the car's display and to Xanterra for their cooperation. The museum will also host various programs during the Fred Harvey History Weekend from November 7 to 9, 2025. On November 7, visitors can watch "The Harvey Girls: Opportunity Bound" documentary for free during the Palace Avenue First Friday Art Walk.
On November 9, car expert Winslow Bent will discuss the history and restoration of the displayed vehicle. The Cadillac is usually housed at Grand Canyon National Park where Xanterra Travel conducts driving excursions along the South Rim.
Additional exhibitions related to Harvey Company history are available at the museum. Lectures featuring speakers like Kathleen Dull and Stephen Fried will occur on November 7 and 8 from noon to 5 p.m., with tickets priced at $60 for in-person attendance and $25 for virtual participation.
