The National Hispanic Cultural Center (NHCC) is marking its 25th anniversary with a celebration on October 25. The event will feature art activities, tours, and musical performances. Executive Director Zack Quintero said, "Since opening in 2000, the Center has embraced its identity as a cultural home for the diverse identities that shape our community." He added that the anniversary is a time to reflect on past achievements and look forward to future growth.
The NHCC was established after more than ten years of effort by the Hispanic Cultural Foundation and co-founder Ed Lujan. It opened in October 2000 with notable attendees such as Prince Felipe de Borbón of Spain and Vice President Al Gore.
The celebration will begin at 11:00 a.m. with guided tours of the NHCC Torreón and its fresco, Mundos de Mestizaje. Live performances in the Fountain Courtyard will include Azteca dancers and artists from the National Institute of Flamenco. Activities like dance performances, crown-making, and face-painting will be available throughout the day.
In the evening, starting at 6:00 p.m., visitors can enjoy music from Nosotros, an award-winning Latin band from the Southwest United States.
Post-celebration events include free guided tours of the Visual Art Museum Collections on October 28, October 30, and November 1. These tours offer insights into the museum's permanent collection of over 4,500 artworks.
