New Mexico United's defender Kalen Ryden has announced his retirement from professional soccer after the 2025 season. Ryden, who joined the team in 2020, has played in 147 matches for New Mexico United, contributing four goals and four assists over 12,376 minutes on the field. He holds the club record for clearances with 489 and blocks with 94.
Ryden's career spans multiple teams, including Columbus Crew SC, Jacksonville Armada, Oklahoma City Energy, and Austin Aztex. He also won a USL Championship title with Real Monarchs SLC in 2019. Throughout his career, he has made a total of 285 appearances, scoring 16 goals and providing ten assists.
Born in Norman, Oklahoma, Ryden is celebrated by fans in New Mexico for his leadership qualities and commitment to the team. Peter Trevisani, CEO and Majority Owner of New Mexico United, praised Ryden's impact: "Kalen Ryden has been the soul of this team — a captain, a competitor, and a true friend to everyone in our organization," he said. "What he’s brought to New Mexico United can’t be measured in minutes or wins. It lives in the spirit of unity he inspired and the standard he set for everyone who follows."
As New Mexico United continues its push toward the postseason with three home games remaining this regular season, fans have limited opportunities left to see Ryden play as number 22 anchors their defense.
