The Santa Fe Chamber of Commerce is taking active steps to address community issues impacting businesses and families. According to Bridget Dixson, President and CEO of the Chamber, they are not only involved in ceremonial events but also engage deeply with significant local matters.
A major focus is on childcare costs in New Mexico, where families spend nearly $12,000 annually per child. The state's Governor has announced an expansion of childcare access to all families, irrespective of income. Dixson notes that this initiative positions New Mexico as a national leader and addresses a key barrier to workforce participation.
Another topic under consideration is the proposal by the City Council to raise the minimum wage to $17.50. While many employers already pay above this rate, the Chamber has initiated a survey to gather business community feedback on how such a change could affect various sectors.
Civic engagement remains a priority for the Chamber. Recently, they hosted discussions with mayoral candidates and are planning a City Councilor Meet and Greet event on October 8 at La Fonda on the Plaza. These events aim to foster relationships and ensure community voices contribute to shaping Santa Fe's future.
Additionally, the Chamber will hold its 10th Annual Women’s Leadership Luncheon and Summit on October 17-18. This event aims to celebrate leadership and inspire connections within the community.
