Gabe Vasquez, U.S. Congressman representing New Mexico’s 2nd district, has used his social media platform to express concerns about federal healthcare policy and its impact on rural communities in southern New Mexico.

On October 4, 2025, Vasquez criticized the current administration's approach to healthcare policy, stating: "This Administration is playing politics with your health care. It’s unacceptable. I am ready to work with anyone to keep our rural hospitals open and to keep 40k southern New Mexicans insured. #BoldTruth"

Three days later, on October 7, he reiterated his willingness to collaborate across party lines: "My offer still stands– I’m willing to work with anyone to protect families from the impact of skyrocketing healthcare bills. We must fix this now. Inaction is not an option."

In a subsequent post on October 8, Vasquez addressed recent legislative measures and their limitations: "Unfortunately, it's also just a temporary fix. I'm still pushing to reverse these Republican cuts at the federal level. Because forcing our state gov to foot the bill for federal healthcare + food assistance means less for public safety, our schools, & affordable housing."

Vasquez assumed office in 2023 after defeating Yvette Herrell in the 2024 general election by a margin of approximately four percentage points (52.1% to 47.9%). He has since focused on issues affecting his constituents in New Mexico’s largely rural second district.
