Gabe Vasquez, U.S. Congressman representing New Mexico’s 2nd district, has used his social media platform to address issues related to government effectiveness, the importance of National Parks staff, and support for local farmers in a series of posts published on October 1 and 2, 2025.
In a post dated October 1, Vasquez stated: "New Mexicans deserve a government that works- that lowers the cost of living, keeps health care affordable and accessible, and keeps them safe. I am willing to work with anyone who actually wants to get this done."
The following day, Vasquez highlighted the role of National Parks staff in supporting both conservation efforts and local economies. He wrote: "National Parks staff aren’t dead wood. They’re vital stewards of places like White Sands and Carlsbad Caverns — economic engines for local communities. The administration should place its effort in working to reach a bipartisan deal that reopens the government." This comment comes amid ongoing debates over federal funding and potential impacts on public lands.
Later on October 2, Vasquez addressed concerns facing agricultural workers in his district. He posted: "Across our district, farmers work hard to feed our community and families across the country. This administration is playing politics with our livelihoods and our farmers are paying the price."
Vasquez began serving as representative for New Mexico’s 2nd district after defeating Yvette Herrell in the 2024 general election by a margin of approximately four percentage points (52.1% to 47.9%). He assumed office in January 2023 after replacing Herrell.
These statements reflect ongoing policy discussions around cost-of-living issues, healthcare accessibility, federal worker roles during shutdowns or budget disputes, and support for agriculture—all key areas for constituents in southern New Mexico.
