The New Mexico True Certified program has achieved a significant milestone by welcoming its 500th partner. Established in Spring 2016, the initiative is part of the New Mexico Tourism Department's efforts to promote local businesses. It began with just a few dozen partners and has since grown into the department's largest program by number of partners.
The program was created in response to local business interest in sharing the New Mexico True brand. It allows merchants, artists, and entrepreneurs to certify that their products are made and grown in New Mexico. Acting Secretary Lancing Adams said, "Reaching this incredible milestone really speaks to the value that the New Mexico True Certified program brings to small businesses." He added that it helps connect travelers with local contributors who enhance New Mexico's identity as a unique travel destination.
The program has achieved several accomplishments on its way to reaching 500 partners. These include establishing in-store display partnerships with Smith’s and Albertson’s for showcasing certified food products, publishing gift guides online and in print through New Mexico Magazine, conducting annual surveys for insights on business operations, and launching shop local campaigns during recent holiday seasons.
Recently, representatives from the New Mexico Tourism Department celebrated the launch of Albuquerque International Sunport’s ABQ Ascend program. This initiative allows New Mexico merchants to sell their products to travelers at Sunport throughout the year. Of the nine inaugural cohort members of this program, seven are part of the New Mexico True Certified initiative.
