Motorists in Albuquerque are advised to expect higher traffic volumes during the 2025 Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta, which will take place from October 4 to October 12. The New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) announced that measures are being taken to help manage congestion, especially along Interstate 25.
To minimize delays during the event, NMDOT will keep three lanes open in both directions on I-25. However, the section between Comanche Road and Montgomery Boulevard remains under construction, with lanes shifted toward the outside. Local travelers should note that at Comanche Road near I-25, only one lane is open each way. On Montgomery Boulevard at I-25, there are three westbound lanes and two eastbound lanes available due to lane shifts.
"Given the anticipated influx of visitors, NMDOT encourages drivers to plan, allow additional travel time, and exercise caution when traveling to the Balloon Fiesta or through the Albuquerque area," stated an official release from NMDOT.
