The Anderson Theater at the Anderson Abruzzo Albuquerque International Balloon Museum will reopen to the public on Saturday, October 4, at 9 a.m. The reopening follows renovations funded by the Anderson Family and the New Mexico Department of Tourism’s Destination Forward Grant.
Public programming is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. Nan Masland, Director of the Balloon Museum, said, “We couldn’t be more excited to reopen the Anderson Theater just in time to welcome Balloon Fiesta visitors from around the world. This is such a special moment for us, and it wouldn’t have been possible without our wonderful supporters. Now guests can experience ballooning stories on the big screen in a whole new way.”
The first day will feature the premiere of “Above and Beyond: A Balloon Museum Story,” created by Sopapilla Productions. The production company is based in Albuquerque and led by Keith and Felicia Allen, who focus on showcasing local businesses, artists, and creatives through film.
Other films to be shown include “Ballooning Around the World,” a compilation by Ruedi and Priska Abbühl; “Wind Riders,” which highlights Albuquerque legends Richard Abruzzo and Carol Rymer Davis; and “Love in the Clouds,” about a couple who meet at Balloon Fiesta.
Upgrades to the theater include new seating, improved lighting, a modern projector, and enhanced sound system. Access to screenings will be available on a first-come, first-served basis with regular museum admission. More information about showtimes can be found at cabq.gov/balloon.
