On September 17, the 377th Medical Group at Kirtland Air Force Base organized the Bump and Beyond Expo. The event aimed to provide airmen and their families with access to essential health care and support resources. The expo featured a variety of local agencies, specialists, and community organizations in one place, allowing families to inquire about both military and civilian health care systems.
Lt. Col. Susan Joseph, chief nurse executive of the 377th Medical Group, said, "We wanted to give our beneficiaries direct access to these experts, so they know what resources are available to them and how to use them." She emphasized the importance of connecting families with specialized providers, especially in women's health where there can be shortages.
The expo was designed to make these connections clear and accessible for families seeking care on base or within the community. It showcased the medical group's commitment to supporting every family beyond just clinic visits.
Participants included maternal and child health providers, family services, a CPR instructor, a TRICARE representative, faith-based organizations, among others. This diverse mix underscored the need for guiding beneficiaries through a complex network of resources.
