The Albuquerque International Sunport marked the grand opening of the Ascend ABQ Retail Kiosk Program, an initiative designed to support local entrepreneurs by offering retail space, mentorship, and business experience at the airport.

Mayor Keller stated, “We developed the Ascend ABQ program to highlight the world-class brands and products made locally by New Mexican entrepreneurs. We now have the country’s largest small-business presence in a U.S. airport.”

A ribbon cutting ceremony was held in the Sunport’s Great Hall, attended by City Councilor Nichole Rogers, Aviation leadership, and other community leaders. The event recognized the inaugural class of Ascend ABQ entrepreneurs.

Aviation Deputy Director Gary Gilliard said, “Albuquerque is packed with passionate, creative entrepreneurs, and programs like Ascend ABQ help turn their ideas into reality. By opening up space at the Sunport, we’re not just giving local businesses a spotlight—we’re highlighting how they make our city unique while helping them grow.”

The celebration included individual ribbon cuttings for each of the nine kiosks participating in the program. Eddie Valentin Fashion was among those recognized during the ceremony.

Councilor Rogers commented on the impact of the initiative: “Ascend ABQ is more than a business incubator—it’s a testament to the power of investing in our community. As the program grows, more local vendors will have the opportunity to showcase their products to travelers from around the world, putting Albuquerque’s creativity and culture on full display.”
