Gabe Vasquez, U.S. Congressman representing New Mexico’s 2nd district, has announced his bid for re-election through a series of posts on his social media account. Vasquez addressed issues surrounding free speech and reflected on his time serving Southern New Mexico.

On September 18, 2025, Vasquez emphasized the importance of constitutional rights in a post stating, "Free speech is protected by our constitution. Attacks on free speech threaten all of us - including you."

Two days later, on September 20, 2025, he declared his candidacy for re-election with a message to supporters: "Today, I am launching my bid for re-election to represent New Mexico’s 2nd District, and I couldn’t be more proud of our team and every single volunteer who’s going to help us save Democracy!" In a follow-up post made at the same time, Vasquez reflected on his experience in office: "Representing the people of Southern New Mexico for the last 4 yrs has been an honor. And even though I didn’t grow up dreaming of a life in politics, when I saw our communities being ignored and politicians more interested in power than in their people, I knew I had to step up."

Vasquez began serving in Congress after defeating Yvette Herrell in the 2024 general election by securing 52.1% of the vote against Herrell's 47.9%. He replaced Herrell as the representative for New Mexico’s 2nd district in 2023.
