After more than 20 years of anticipation, the Taylor-Mesilla Historic Site in Mesilla, New Mexico, is set to open as the state's eighth historic site. The grand opening event on November 8, 2025, will feature a ribbon-cutting ceremony and live music on the Mesilla Plaza. This event is organized by the New Mexico Department of Cultural Affairs (NMDCA), New Mexico Historic Sites (NMHS), and the Friends of Taylor-Mesilla Historic Site.

Anne McCudden, Executive Director of New Mexico Historic Sites, expressed pride in sharing this cultural landmark with both locals and visitors. "Through tremendous dedication and care from a team of staff, museum and preservation experts, volunteers, and consultants, we are proud to now share this cultural gem with New Mexicans and visitors alike," she said.

The site consists of three buildings listed on the National Register of Historic Places. These include two storefronts and a large residence that once belonged to J. Paul Taylor, a former New Mexico legislator and educator, and his wife Mary Daniels Taylor. The Taylors lived there for over 70 years and amassed an extensive collection of fine art from local artists as well as folk art from around the world. They donated their home to the state in 2003 with plans for it to become part of NMHS after their passing.

Debra Garcia y Griego, NMDCA Cabinet Secretary, highlighted the site's significance: "Taylor-Mesilla Historic Site offers a truly authentic experience for both community members and visitors to learn about the history of Mesilla as a center of political, commercial, and social activity through time."

Heather Pollard, President of the Friends of the Taylor-Mesilla Historic Site, expressed her organization's commitment to supporting ongoing preservation efforts: "The Friends of the Taylor-Mesilla Site have been honored to support the historic preservation efforts and look forward to many years working with the incredible staff."
