Eastern New Mexico University has reported an increase in student enrollment, surpassing 6,000 students for the first time since 2018. The university’s official fall 2025 enrollment stands at 6,002, marking only the fourth time in its history that this milestone has been reached.
The data shows a continued upward trend in student numbers. Enrollment is up by 265 students from fall 2024 and has increased by more than 1,000 students—a growth of about 20 percent—since fall 2021. The Graduate School also posted a record high with a total of 1,614 graduate students enrolled this semester, reflecting an increase of more than eight percent over last year. Transfer student numbers rose by nearly five percent and continuing student enrollments climbed almost eleven percent.
Full-time enrollment for both undergraduate and graduate students contributed significantly to these gains. Student credit hours rose by just over four percent compared to the previous year.
"It is great to see another growth milestone. This is the result of a tremendous effort to recruit and enroll students, as well as remaining innovative to meet today's students where they are," said James Johnston, ENMU Chancellor. "We continue to deliver on our mission of student success, and the word is spreading."
ENMU's diverse population now includes representatives from all counties in New Mexico, every U.S. state and territory except one, and dozens of countries around the world.
On-campus housing was at or near full capacity on the first day of classes as more students opted for in-person learning experiences.
"The positive student experiences in and out of the classroom resonate through our current Greyhound community and with our alumni. I believe this has a direct impact on our enrollment growth and retention, as seen this fall," said Christy Johanson, Vice President of Student Affairs and Enrollment Management. "Helping students find a sense of belonging is critical for student success, whether in-person or online. I believe we are succeeding in this goal, and this translates into a dynamic and unique student experience, one Greyhound at a time."
This semester marks the fourth straight year that Eastern New Mexico University has experienced overall enrollment growth.
