Rob Black, Cabinet Secretary-Designate | New Mexico Economic Development Department
The New Mexico Economic Development Department’s Technology and Innovation Office has begun accepting applications for the FY26 Science and Technology Business Startup Grant. The grant is designed to support small businesses in research and development that have the potential to bring new technologies to market.
Eligible applicants must be New Mexico-based, for-profit companies working in advanced computing, advanced energy, aerospace, or bioscience. Award amounts range from $25,000 to $50,000 and are intended for business development expenses that help commercialize technology at an early stage.
According to the department, previous recipients of the grant in 2024 included firms focused on space-based communications, water treatment solutions, medical technology innovations, and geothermal energy projects.
“The initiative is a competitive state-funded grant that supports small businesses engaged in research and development with the potential for commercializing their technology. This grant assists early-stage companies that are developing a unique product and exhibit strong growth potential,” according to the New Mexico Economic Development Department.
Funds provided through this program are meant to give recipients resources needed during their company’s initial phase of commercialization efforts.
The Technology and Innovation Office is part of the New Mexico Economic Development Department. Its mission includes supporting startups and growing emerging sectors such as advanced computing, advanced energy, aerospace, and bioscience across the state through investments and partnerships.
