Deb Haaland, U.S. Secretary of the Interior and former congresswoman representing New Mexico, shared a series of posts on her Twitter account highlighting her ongoing work in public service and policy advocacy.
On July 29, 2025, Haaland recognized Parks & Recreation Month, emphasizing her commitment to making recreational spaces accessible. She wrote, "It's Parks & Recreation Month! I've worked to support city parks, rodeo grounds, wildlife refuges and more throughout my career, and I'll continue working to make those places accessible to everyone. Which New Mexico park do you and your family make memories at?"
Later that day, she discussed education initiatives following a meeting with local educators. In her post dated July 29, 2025, Haaland stated: "Today, I met with Santo Domingo Head Start teachers as they prepare their students for back to school. We talked about the tools they need in the classroom. From more funding to reliable Internet — I will prioritize students and invest in a better public education system."
On July 30, 2025, Haaland addressed healthcare concerns related to Medicaid coverage in New Mexico. She reflected on her personal experience: "When I was pregnant with Somah, Medicaid covered my prenatal care & delivery. For 60 years, Medicaid has helped New Mexicans access critical care. But Trump's Big Ugly Bill risks our families' health. I’ll fight like hell for the care New Mexicans need to be healthy & safe."
Medicaid has been a significant part of healthcare in New Mexico since its inception sixty years ago. The program provides health coverage for low-income individuals and families across the United States.
As Secretary of the Interior since March 2021—the first Native American to serve as a cabinet secretary—Haaland has focused on issues including public lands access and educational equity.
