Soprano Ailyn Pérez is set to perform as the Countess in all remaining shows of "The Marriage of Figaro" at The Santa Fe Opera, starting July 31. Pérez steps in for Spanish soprano Marina Monzó, who has withdrawn due to personal reasons. Pérez previously performed this role in 2022 at the Seiji Ozawa Matsumoto Festival in Japan and has appeared in productions at Houston Grand Opera, the Metropolitan Opera, and Staatsoper Hamburg.
The production returns to the Crosby Theatre on July 31 and will run through August 22, 2025. Pérez was last seen at Santa Fe Opera in "Rusalka" in 2023 and has also performed in "Roméo et Juliette" and "Faust."
Laurent Pelly's production of Mozart’s "The Marriage of Figaro," which opened on June 28, is a revival from the 2021 season. The opera is set just before World War II with scenic designs by Chantal Thomas. The production features a turntable resembling a clock to emphasize the passage of time.
Harry Bicket conducts an international cast that includes Italian bass Ricardo Fassi as Figaro and French baritone Florian Sempey as Count Almaviva. Other notable debuts include Chinese mezzo-soprano Hongni Wu as Cherubino and American soprano Liv Redpath as Susanna.
Nine performances are scheduled between June 28 and August 22, sung in Italian with English and Spanish titles. The Santa Fe Opera continues its tradition of innovative productions while offering various programs for audiences.
