New Mexico extends deadline for SNAP benefits replacement after Trout Fire impact

SANTA FE — Residents of Grant County, New Mexico, who are part of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), have been given an extension until Monday, July 28, to apply for emergency food benefits. This extension includes the newly added Mimbres postal code (88049).

"We urge SNAP clients in the fire-affected areas of Grant County to apply for emergency food benefit replacement before Monday, July 28," stated Niki Kozlowski, Director of the Income Support Division at the New Mexico Health Care Authority. "If you believe you may be eligible, please call the Health Care Authority or visit our local office in Silver City."

Following an executive order by Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham declaring a state of emergency in Grant County due to the Trout Fire, SNAP clients residing in certain postal codes may qualify for support. These include 88053, 88061, 88062 and the new federal government-approved postal code 88049. No specific food documentation is required; verbal reports are accepted.
