The Coalition to Stop Violence Against Native Women (CSVANW) has announced the return of its Annual Native Youth Summit. This two-day leadership development event is set for July 11-12, 2025, at Bachechi Open Space in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The summit aims to inspire and connect Native youth from across New Mexico.
This year's event will gather 25 Native youth aged 13 to 17 for workshops and discussions on topics such as healthy relationships, consent, mental wellness, bystander intervention, and digital safety. Saundra Tsabetsaye, CSVANW Youth & Family Engagement Coordinator stated, “At CSVANW, we believe our youth are already leaders.” She emphasized that the summit aims to strengthen their voices and foster tools needed for community change.
A key feature of the summit will be a presentation titled “The Magic of You: Empowering the Next Generation Through Story, Culture, and Magic” by Brian Yazzie. As a professional Native American magician from the Navajo Nation, Yazzie combines illusions with cultural teachings and personal storytelling.
Participants will also have a guided visit to Equine Therapeutic Connections for healing through movement and connection with animals. Participation requires a liability waiver signed by a parent or guardian.
Details for those attending include breakfast and lunch provided both days along with stipends available for those who attend both full days. A liability waiver is necessary for participation in certain activities.
The Native Youth Summit aligns with CSVANW’s commitment to ending violence against Native women and children through investment in leadership development among youth.
