The New Mexico Public Education Department (PED) has announced a collaboration with the Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) Foundation and WestEd to develop the Martinez/Yazzie remedial action plan. The LANL Foundation will organize and support stakeholder engagement, while WestEd will focus on creating the plan.
On June 6, PED released a Request for Interest (RFI) document outlining the project's scope and key requirements. In reviewing submissions, PED considered factors such as New Mexico's unique educational context and court directives on stakeholder engagement, with assistance from the Legislative Education Study Committee.
WestEd is a nonpartisan nonprofit organization that collaborates with policymakers, school leaders, and communities to provide services like research, evaluation, and policy guidance. The LANL Foundation, established in 1997, focuses on education to enhance lives and economic opportunities in seven northern New Mexico counties.
The Martinez/Yazzie remedial action plan aims to ensure all New Mexico students have access to a uniform and sufficient education, especially those at risk due to socioeconomic status or other factors. A draft of the plan is expected by October 1, 2025, with final submission by November 3.
