SANTA FE – The Aging and Long-Term Services Department (ALTSD) has announced the appointment of Corey Roybal as the new Director of Adult Protective Services (APS). Roybal, who joined ALTSD in 2018, has held various roles within the department, most recently serving as deputy director of APS since 2023.
Emily Kaltenbach, ALTSD Cabinet Secretary, commented on Roybal's appointment: “During his time here at ALTSD, Corey has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to protecting the most vulnerable New Mexicans. His deep knowledge of adult protective services, combined with a harm-reduction and trauma-informed approach make him the right leader to guide this vital division forward.”
Roybal is a lifelong resident of New Mexico and holds a bachelor’s degree in criminology from the University of New Mexico. Before joining ALTSD, he worked with the New Mexico Crime Victims Reparation Commission where he assisted survivors of violent crimes by connecting them with restorative resources.
“It is an honor to step into this role and continue to uphold the dignity, safety and wellbeing of adults who may be at risk,” said Roybal. “APS is a lifeline for many, and I am proud to lead an incredible team that shows up every day committed to ensuring every New Mexican has access to the protection and support they deserve.”
