New Mexico State Parks has announced the addition of a new law enforcement officer to its team at Navajo Lake State Park. Park Ranger Oran Hurst, who recently completed his training at the San Juan County Criminal Justice Training Authority-Basic Police Academy in Farmington, New Mexico, joins the team after being named valedictorian of his class.
State Park Rangers in New Mexico are tasked with safeguarding parks, wildlife, and cultural sites while also supporting educational initiatives. Toby Velásquez, Director of the State Parks Division, expressed enthusiasm about Hurst's arrival: "Our rangers bring a wealth of experience, passion, and commitment to preserving these precious resources for future generations. We’re excited to welcome Park Ranger Hurst to the team as we continue our important work of conservation and public service."
The demand for park rangers is currently high across New Mexico's state parks system. Gabriel Maes, Chief of the Law Enforcement and Boating Safety Bureau, highlighted the opportunity for those interested in joining: "Joining the team as a park ranger allows individuals to actively contribute to the protection of New Mexico’s natural and cultural resources while ensuring public safety."
