New Mexico's track and field program achieved significant recognition following the NCAA Outdoor Championships. Pamela Kosgei was named USTFCCCA Mountain Region Women's Athlete of the Year, while Head Coach Darren Gauson received the Regional Coach of the Year award for both men's and women's teams.
Kosgei's accolades include being the first Lobo woman since Weini Kelati in 2019 to earn the outdoor season award. She made history as only the fifth woman in NCAA history to win both the 5K and 10K at the same Outdoor Championships, and she is also recognized as a first team All-American in two events.
Gauson became only the second coach to win both Men's and Women's Regional Coach of the Year honors in a single year, joining Texas Tech’s Wes Kittley who achieved this in 2022 and 2024. He is also UNM's first coach to receive this honor since Joe Franklin in 2010.
The Lobo women's team finished ninth with 25 points at the National Championships, marking their second-highest score in program history. The men's team achieved their highest finish with 31 points, placing fifth. Combined, they scored a total of 56 points, surpassing previous records from 2018.
UNM stands out as one of four programs nationwide to have both men's and women's teams finish in the Top 10, alongside USC, Texas A&M, and Arkansas. They are also unique for achieving Top 10 finishes at both NCAA Cross Country and Outdoor Track & Field Championships during the 2024-25 season.
