Lt. Col. Joseph Garcia has taken command of the 615th Transportation Battalion from Lt. Col. Mark Miller in a ceremony held at the Regional Training Institute in Santa Fe, New Mexico. The event was overseen by Col. Eric James, commander of the 111th Sustainment Brigade.
During his address, James acknowledged the contributions of the battalion's soldiers to various state missions, including fire response efforts and law enforcement support in Albuquerque. "Your professionalism and your adaptability in both federal and state missions are the cornerstone of the battalion’s success," he said.
James praised Miller for his leadership, noting his "sharp intellect" and "systems-level understanding" that enhanced readiness and outcomes during his tenure. Although Miller's family could not attend, James expressed gratitude for their support.
Addressing Garcia, James welcomed him as a familiar figure with extensive experience from the Engineer Branch and diverse assignments. "Your perspective will offer new ways to approach challenges," he said.
Miller is relocating out of state but plans to continue serving in the Army Reserve. He expressed his appreciation for the battalion, saying, "This is one hell of a battalion."
Garcia previously served as Executive Officer for the 93rd Troop Command in Santa Fe. He thanked James for his trust and mentorship and acknowledged Miller's service as commander. Garcia emphasized Soldier care and retention as priorities: "I promise to lead with integrity, transparency, and a steadfast commitment to your well-being."
Capt. Zachary Jessee acted as master of ceremonies while Chaplain (Capt.) Peter Hinojos provided spiritual guidance during the event.
