Across New Mexico, libraries and bookmobiles are supporting children's literacy through free summer programs. These efforts aim to keep young readers engaged during school breaks and encourage lifelong learning.
The New Mexico State Library has been operating the Rural Bookmobile Program since 1956. It currently runs three bookmobiles based in Cimarron, Tucumcari, and Los Lunas. Additionally, some local municipalities offer their own services. For instance, the City of Rio Rancho operates a bookmobile that makes weekly stops at various community centers and parks, delivering library materials directly to residents.
"Summer reading is more than just fun — it’s essential," states the press release. Thanks to these initiatives, thousands of children in New Mexico are turning the page toward brighter futures.
