The New Mexico Museum of Natural History & Science is offering a range of activities this summer to help visitors escape the heat while learning about natural wonders. Executive Director Dr. Anthony Fiorillo said, "With our Young Explorers Summer Camps and Junior Docent program throughout the week, and activities nearly every weekend, there’s always something new to explore at the museum in June and July."
An event called Sally's Night will take place on Friday, June 20, celebrating Dr. Sally Ride, the first American woman in space. Special guest Melinda Snodgrass, known for writing a Star Trek: The Next Generation episode, will be present from 6:00 to 6:30 p.m. to sign books.
Visitors can also explore the traveling exhibition Sci-Fi & Sci-Fact, which examines the overlap between science fiction and scientific fact. At the end of June, a public engagement event titled "What’s Old Will Be New" will provide information about upcoming renovations starting in August.
In July, several events are planned including Family Day on Saturday, July 12. From 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., visitors can bring rocks and fossils for identification by museum experts. On July 19 at 6:30 p.m., Dr. Chris Lowder will discuss NASA’s PUNCH mission.
On Wednesday, July 23 at 10:00 a.m., Alaina Wiwi will talk about artworks in the Bradbury Stamm Construction Hall of Ancient Life. A Relaxed Night with sensory-friendly activities is scheduled for Thursday, July 31 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
Before closing for renovations, the museum invites visitors for a weekend of activities starting Saturday, August 2 with food trucks and family events.
