Grand Canyon University (GCU) has initiated its accelerated nursing program in collaboration with Lovelace Health Systems. The launch was celebrated on June 3, with the Greater Albuquerque Chamber of Commerce participating in the event. This new 16-month program is designed to address the nursing shortage in New Mexico, where approximately 7,000 nursing positions are currently available.
The program structure includes online courses for flexible learning, simulation and skills labs for practical application, and clinical experiences at local sites in Albuquerque. These components aim to provide students with comprehensive training before they begin working directly with patients.
"The Chamber has long supported efforts to keep health care readily accessible to all New Mexicans," stated a representative from the Greater Albuquerque Chamber of Commerce. The Chamber also congratulated GCU on its initiative, noting that the university has been a member since 2018.
