Protesters gathered at Mariposa Basin Park in Albuquerque on Saturday, coinciding with President Trump's birthday and the 250th anniversary of the US Army. An estimated 3,000 people participated in the event. Paul Gessing, President of the Rio Grande Foundation, attended due to the park's proximity to his home.

Gessing shared his observations: "To the extent that the protesters were actually opposed to executive or even government power, that is a good thing." He noted a lack of similar opposition during Joe Biden's presidency and mentioned Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham's approach to COVID-19 and gun rights as authoritarian.

The protest was peaceful, which Gessing attributed to its suburban location. He observed that some attendees still wore masks outdoors despite more than five years since COVID-19 began. Protest signs indicated three main themes: personal dislike of Trump, pro-immigration sentiments, and support for trans/LGBT rights. Gessing expressed a desire for issues like federal spending or tariffs to be addressed but noted it was a partisan-led protest.
