According to a statement released by NMSSA, the recent violence and unrest in Los Angeles and other parts of the country have escalated, with incidents of "rioting, arson, vandalism, and attacks on law enforcement and public property." While affirming support for the constitutional right to protest, NMSSA clarified that "peaceful assembly is vital" and emphasized their rejection of the violence accompanying these events.
The association said that "riots and property destruction endanger lives" and "undermine trust" in communities. They called for all responses to remain within the bounds of "lawful order and due process." NMSSA urged Americans to support "healing within communities" and engage in "constructive dialogue to address grievances," reiterating their commitment to both public safety and the protection of constitutional rights.

Protests have also spread to cities including Dallas, Austin, Chicago, and New York, where additional arrests were made, curfews imposed, and National Guard troops placed on standby.
