The Aurora Police Department has issued a warning regarding a scam involving fake messages about outstanding traffic tickets. The department emphasizes that they do not send texts or make phone calls to collect fees.
"We do NOT send texts or make phone calls to collect fees and urge anyone that receives a message about an outstanding traffic ticket not provide any payment information," the statement reads. Recipients of such texts are advised not to click on any links and to block the sender. Similarly, if contacted by phone, individuals should hang up and block the caller.
Authorities are urging people to spread awareness of this scam, particularly among those who may be more vulnerable.
