University of New Mexico Men's Basketball Coach Eric Olen addressed the Greater Albuquerque Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors on May 22. He was introduced by GACC chair Del Esparza and UNM Athletics Director Fernando Lovo.
Lovo shared that UNM has reached several academic and athletic milestones this year. "Seventy UNM athletes received an undergraduate degree. Seventeen received a graduate degree. Twenty-two are New Mexicans," he said. Additionally, twenty student-athletes graduated with a 4.0 GPA.
In athletics, the men's tennis team won its first Mountain West title in 15 years, and the men's golf team qualified for the NCAA championship in San Diego as the only non-power core team to make it. The women's track and field team secured three conference championships in outdoor, indoor, and cross country events. Currently, UNM holds six Mountain West championships this year, and basketball revenue surpassed $4 million.
