The New Mexico Health Care Authority (HCA), in collaboration with the Aging and Long-Term Services Department (ALTSD), is providing a one-time food benefit to New Mexicans over age 60 and adults with disabilities who are enrolled in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). This initiative will reach 29,444 individuals throughout June, offering an additional $68 to assist with grocery purchases. The funds will be automatically added to recipients' EBT cards on June 3.
Kyra Ochoa, deputy cabinet secretary for the New Mexico Health Care Authority, said, "Through this collaboration, we provided critical additional food support for important members of our communities." She highlighted that using state general funds for these extra benefits exemplifies effective interdepartmental partnerships serving those in need.
The funding for this supplement is sourced from the state general fund, supported by Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham and the New Mexico Legislature. These efforts aim to help older adults and people with disabilities afford groceries while bolstering local economies.
Emily Kaltenbach, ALTSD cabinet secretary, expressed pride in partnering with HCA again to provide relief. "This boost reflects our shared commitment to ensuring New Mexicans have access to the nutritious food they need," she said.
