The New Mexico Health Care Authority and the Administrative Office of the Courts are set to hold the first meeting of the Executive Committee under Senate Bill 3, known as the Behavioral Health Reform and Investment Act. This inaugural meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, June 24, at 9 a.m. in Santa Fe.
"This meeting marks the beginning of a coordinated effort to put Senate Bill 3 into action," said Kari Armijo, secretary of the New Mexico Health Care Authority. "We’re committed to building a behavioral health system that truly serves New Mexicans and reflects the input of communities across the state."
Senate Bill 3 received strong bipartisan support and aims to address gaps in New Mexico’s behavioral and substance use services. The legislation unites all three branches of government along with community leaders to reshape the state's behavioral health system. The Executive Committee will oversee the law's implementation, focusing on transparency, regional equity, and public engagement.
"We are honored the Legislature gave us this new role and this meeting is an important first step with our partners to rebuilding New Mexico’s behavioral health system," said Karl W. Reifsteck, director for the Administrative Office of the Courts.
The public can attend this meeting either in person or via Zoom. The agenda includes introductions of committee members, updates from AOC and HCA on implementation activities, presentations on behavioral health regions, discussions on public input procedures, reporting accountability, and a preview of the next meeting scheduled for August 5.
