Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham has announced the expansion of the Dolly Parton Imagination Library program across New Mexico. This initiative aims to provide children from birth to age five with a free book each month, supporting early childhood literacy and development.
"Expanding access to books for children in every corner of our state is a game-changer," said Governor Lujan Grisham. "The Imagination Library program will help ensure that all New Mexico kids have the tools they need to succeed."
The statewide rollout follows successful local implementations and partnerships with community organizations. The governor's office emphasized that this expansion is part of broader efforts to improve educational outcomes for young children.
"We are thrilled to partner with Dolly Parton's Imagination Library and bring this incredible resource to families throughout New Mexico," said Lauren Dodd Thorp from the Office of the Governor.
The program, founded by country music icon Dolly Parton, has distributed millions of books worldwide since its inception in 1995. It aims to foster a love for reading among young children by providing them with age-appropriate books at no cost.
"Every child deserves access to quality literature, regardless of their family's financial situation," added Governor Lujan Grisham. "This initiative is an investment in our children's future."
New Mexico joins several other states in offering this program on a statewide basis, highlighting its commitment to improving literacy rates and educational opportunities for all residents.
