New Mexico Museum unveils interactive space history exhibit

The New Mexico Museum of Space History is set to unveil its latest exhibit, the "Wall of Firsts," on May 28, 2025. This interactive display is located on the second floor of the main museum in Alamogordo, NM. The exhibit aims to provide visitors with an immersive experience into significant milestones in space history.

The "Wall of Firsts" features two large 86-inch screens that showcase photos, videos, and detailed text. These elements come to life at the touch of a fingertip, offering insights into the achievements that have shaped space exploration. According to museum spokesperson Olga Valanos, "This exhibit is a fantastic addition to our museum. It’s designed to be incredibly engaging, allowing visitors to explore the rich timeline of rocketry since 1900 or delve into the lives of the history-making people who shaped space exploration."

In addition to highlighting past accomplishments, the exhibit also looks forward to future space missions. Visitors can learn about upcoming projects such as a mission focused on Mercury, which remains one of the least explored planets in our solar system.

The New Mexico Museum of Space History operates under the New Mexico Department of Cultural Affairs and is affiliated with the Smithsonian Institution. It plays a key role in showcasing New Mexico's contributions to the U.S. Space Program and includes attractions like the International Space Hall of Fame and New Horizons Dome Theater.

For those interested in visiting, the museum is open Monday and Wednesday through Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and Sunday from noon to 5:00 p.m., while it remains closed on Tuesdays.
