New Mexico awards $25k to Ashokra Farm amid controversy over anti-Israel stance

The New Mexico Economic Development Department recently awarded $25,000 to Ashokra Farm in Albuquerque. This farm has gained attention for its unique focus as a "queer and people of color farm," which, according to The Guardian, works to protect against "homophobia, transphobia, racism and sexism."

Controversy arose when it was noted that the farm's Facebook page encourages a boycott of certain agricultural companies in support of a "FREE PALESTINE AND END TO THE GENOCIDE that is currently being funded by Israel and the United States." These companies are reportedly based in Israel and contribute to funding the Israeli Defense Force.

Individuals concerned about this allocation of taxpayer funds are encouraged to share this story with local media outlets or contact Secretary Rob Black at rob.black@edd.nm.gov. A list of EDD personnel is available for further contact information. There is also a call for new legislative leadership and governance ahead of the 2026 elections.
