Defund Big Abortion and Protect Our Children

Concerned Women for America Legislative Action Committee (CWALAC) recently led a powerful grassroots movement to Capitol Hill with a clear message: “Slash the Cash, Save the Kids.” This national call to action aims to end the use of federal tax dollars to fund abortion giants like Planned Parenthood and instead support real, life-affirming healthcare.

In 2023, Planned Parenthood received nearly $700 million in taxpayer funds—even as it performed almost 400,000 abortions, accounting for approximately 40% of all abortions nationwide. In New Mexico, where some of the most extreme abortion laws in the country have been enacted—including unrestricted abortion up to birth—Planned Parenthood and similar organizations continue to expand their reach, while true healthcare options for women and families remain underfunded.

But it doesn't stop there. Planned Parenthood has also become a leading provider of so-called “gender-affirming care” promoting puberty blockers, cross-sex hormones, and irreversible surgeries for minors. These are not acts of compassion; they are medical experiments that devastate children’s bodies and families' lives. New Mexicans of faith and conscience are speaking out: our children deserve protection, not exploitation.

CWALAC’s “Slash the Cash, Save the Kids” campaign aligns with a growing national movement to cut government waste and defund radical, harmful agendas. This message resonates with New Mexicans who value family, faith, and freedom—and who are tired of seeing their tax dollars used to undermine those very principles.

With Planned Parenthood posing as a “healthcare provider” while offering no mammograms or comprehensive women’s care, it is clear we must redirect these funds to providers that do. Federally Qualified Health Centers and Pregnancy Resource Centers across New Mexico offer genuine care—including prenatal services, parenting support, STD testing, and more—without pushing abortion or radical gender ideology.

CWALAC and CWA of New Mexico are urging Congress to:

  • Defund Planned Parenthood and redirect its federal funding to life-affirming care centers.
  • End taxpayer funding of “gender-affirming care,” especially for minors, to protect New Mexico’s children.
  • Eliminate wasteful, ideologically driven spending as Congress debates the reconciliation package.
Organizations like Planned Parenthood act more as political machines than medical providers. In the last election cycle, Planned Parenthood funneled $70 million into political races, targeting pro-life and pro-family candidates—many of whom represent the values held by New Mexicans.

In contrast, CWALAC continues to equip women and young leaders with Biblical truth and practical tools to make their voices heard. During the recent Advocacy Day in Washington, D.C., Young Women for America (YWA) leaders met with lawmakers to share personal stories and compelling evidence about the urgent need to protect our children and defund the abortion industry.

What Can You Do?

If you are a New Mexican who believes in the sanctity of life, the importance of parental rights, and the need for moral clarity in healthcare, we urge you to join the movement:

  • Call or email your members of Congress and ask them to support efforts to defund Planned Parenthood.
  • Use your voice on social media by sharing this message with the hashtag #SlashTheCashSaveTheKids.
  • Support your local pregnancy resource centers and faith-based healthcare clinics with your time, talent, and treasure.
It is time for New Mexico to lead the charge in restoring a culture of life and truth. Our children are worth fighting for—and our tax dollars must reflect our values.
