The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has introduced a proposal aimed at reducing the costs associated with deporting illegal aliens. The plan involves offering a $1,000 stipend and a free plane ride to individuals who choose to self-deport.

According to DHS, this initiative could result in significant savings for American taxpayers. The department states that the current cost of arresting, detaining, and deporting an individual averages over $17,000. In contrast, they anticipate that the new approach will cost approximately $4,500 per person on average.

A DHS spokesperson informed Fox News that even when accounting for the stipend offered under this program, it would still be 70% cheaper than traditional deportation methods. This proposed policy aims to ease the financial burden on taxpayers while addressing immigration concerns.
