Jay Block, senator for New Mexico's 12th Senate District, said that "polling shows the country is finally on the right track." He made this comment in response to a report indicating a decrease in the prices of eggs and gas, as mentioned in a March 17 post on X.

"This is why polling shows the country is finally on the right track," said Block, State Senator. "So much more to do."

In a video from a Rapid Response 47 quoted post, President Donald Trump addressed the decline in egg and gas prices. He noted that oil prices have decreased from $82 a barrel to $65 and emphasized that when energy prices drop, it leads to lower prices for other goods.

According to Market Watch, gas prices are experiencing a fourth consecutive week of decline and could potentially fall below $3 per gallon. Patrick De Haan, GasBuddy’s head of petroleum analysis, commented that this decline isn't necessarily positive. He attributed it to concerns over tariffs and policy uncertainties affecting gasoline demand and slowing economic growth. However, he added that if economic conditions improve, gas prices might rise again but are likely to remain low. As of May 17, the national average price for a gallon of gas is $3.02, which is 42 cents lower than last year.

CNBC reports that wholesale egg prices have dropped by more than 40% since late February. However, it remains uncertain whether retail prices will decrease by the same margin or when such changes might occur. Prices for large grade-A eggs reached a record high in February at an average of $5.90 per dozen—almost double compared to the previous year. CNBC also highlights that there is typically a delay of two to three weeks between changes in wholesale and retail prices. A USDA market analysis indicates that March saw relief from bird flu outbreaks and reduced demand for eggs, contributing to an improved supply situation.

Block is a retired U.S. Air Force lieutenant colonel and former Sandoval County commissioner. In 2024, he was elected as the Republican senator for District 12 after Senator Jerry Ortiz y Pino retired. His campaign emphasized limited government, economic reform, and veterans' issues. During his time as county commissioner, Block sponsored and passed a Second Amendment resolution designating Sandoval County as a 2A Sanctuary County and played an instrumental role in economic development initiatives.
